MIND-MAPPER

In 2017, I founded my design firm Kareracter, drawing on my skills in hand-lettering, self-taught graphic design, and insatiable curiosity. My passion for design and creativity inspired me to pursue this venture, and I saw an opportunity to channel my talents and love for typography into a full-time career. Despite the challenges that came with starting a business, I remained driven by my vision of building a firm that specialized in delivering high-quality design solutions for businesses of all sizes.

Process

I’ve always seen myself as a creative leader. I have a special talent for recognizing talent, and leading small teams. So when I started with my first team, Lex and Mel, I was confident in reimagining where to take the business. We did it through trial and error. While the testing was often difficult, it was exhilarating. Realizing that this is more than just the work we do, but about the jobs and futures we create through the work, is what drove our strategy.

Innovation

The Kareracter Club, its subsidiary, is a creative design membership club for companies & organizations, helping them design visual branding and digital assets with character to shape their brand’s personality. Clients include the Poetry Foundation, Tory Burch Foundation, Thales, Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, Therapy for Black Girls, EBONY Magazine, The Dovetail Project, CurlMix, Sustainable Ocean Alliance, University of Illinois Chicago, & Syracuse University.

Impact

Handwriting is so unique we felt like brands should have a signature that is just as special to them. From early career entrepreneurs to seasoned founders, we helped craft brand identities informed by a deep understanding of the client using our distinctive personality assessment. Through this, we reached a point where people recognize Kareracter Green, that level of association is what we strive for in everything we do. Our art is also in the homes of influential leaders such as the First Lady of Illinois, MK Pritzker, Chairwoman of Ulta Beauty, Mary Dillon, and Chicago City Clerk, Anna Valencia.
